1. Cambodia’s Fashion Scene Steps onto Global Stage at BRICS+ Summit
Cambodia’s fashion industry has taken a bold step onto the international stage with its participation in the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, signaling the country’s growing presence in the global creative economy. At the heart of this milestone was the “Heritage” exhibition, where Cambodian designers showcased the nation’s rich textile traditions and contemporary design talent alongside peers from emerging economies.
Our delegation highlighted the beauty of handwoven fabrics, sustainable practices, and the seamless fusion of cultural heritage with modern aesthetics. This moment not only elevated Cambodia’s profile but also demonstrated that our fashion scene is ready to engage in dialogue with the wider world. By joining BRICS+, Cambodian designers are tapping into fresh opportunities for export, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
What makes this achievement especially meaningful is the balance between tradition and innovation. Designers proudly presented works rooted in centuries-old craftsmanship while embracing eco-friendly materials and forward-looking styles. This approach resonates strongly with international audiences who increasingly value authenticity, sustainability, and cultural storytelling.
Cambodia’s debut on this platform is more than a fashion statement—it is an act of cultural diplomacy and an invitation for global partnerships. It marks the beginning of a new chapter where Cambodian creativity takes its rightful place on the world stage.

3. China Strengthens Role as Cambodia’s Leading Economic Partner, according to Lowy Institute
China continues to entrench itself as Cambodia’s dominant economic partner, according to analysis by the Lowy Institute. Nearly half of Cambodia’s imports now originate from China, and China accounts for about 44 percent of foreign direct investment entering the country. This deep economic integration gives Beijing disproportionate influence over Phnom Penh’s policy choices, trade decisions, and diplomatic positioning. While Chinese capital has helped finance major infrastructure projects roads, bridges, power plants—and elevated Cambodia’s development trajectory, the dependence also raises risks of overreliance on a single partner. Observers warn that Cambodia’s sovereignty could be undermined as China wields soft and hard leverage across economic, political, and strategic domains. At the same time, Cambodia has at times aligned its international stances with Chinese interests, drawing criticism about whether it is shifting away from balanced foreign relations. The report underscores the challenge for Cambodia: benefiting from Chinese investment while preserving strategic agency and diversified partnerships.

4. Cambodia raises 2026 monthly minimum wage to $210 from $208 now
Cambodia has set the monthly minimum wage for 2026 at USD 210, a slight increase from the current USD 208, applying to workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel goods sectors. Probationary employees will remain at USD 208 until becoming full staff, while the new rate will be supplemented by existing benefits, including a USD 10 attendance bonus, USD 7 for transport and housing, and seniority bonuses ranging from USD 2 to USD 11 depending on years of service. The decision, confirmed by Prime Minister Hun Manet after the National Minimum Wage Council’s fourth meeting, reflects the government’s aim to balance workers’ welfare with economic competitiveness. However, the modest USD 2 raise has sparked frustration among garment workers and unions, who argue that it does not adequately address the rising cost of living and inflationary pressures. The announcement highlights ongoing tensions between labor groups seeking fairer compensation and the government’s cautious approach to sustaining investment.

5. Car tyre exports up 64% in first eight months
Cambodia’s car tyre exports surged by 64 percent in the first eight months of 2025, reaching a value of around US$870 million, compared to about US$527 million during the same period last year. This impressive growth is the result of increased foreign investment in the country’s tyre manufacturing industry, supported by government policies that encourage industrial development. Several new factories have been established in provinces such as Svay Rieng, Sihanoukville, and Kratie, with additional projects underway in special economic zones to further expand production capacity. The sector also benefits from Cambodia’s strong natural rubber supply, ensuring a steady stream of raw materials for manufacturers. Moreover, regional trade agreements and improved export infrastructure have enhanced the country’s access to key global markets. The rapid expansion of tyre exports underscores Cambodia’s growing role in the international automotive supply chain and highlights the country’s potential as a competitive hub for industrial production.

Cambodia has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2035, as announced by Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth during a climate summit at the United Nations on September 24, 2025.
